In a #small pot{}, bring @water{1½%cup} to a boil with a large pinch of @salt{}. Drain and rinse @kidney beans{2%can}. Halve, peel, and chop @yellow onion{2%unit}. Once the water is boiling, add @Basmati rice{1%cup}, cover, and reduce to a simmer for ~{20%minutes}, until tender.

![Step 2](step-2.jpg)
Core, seed, and remove white ribs from the @green bell pepper{2%unit}, then finely chop. Mince or grate @garlic{4%clove}. Chop @green olives{2%oz} and @oregano{2%sprig} leaves.

![Step 3](step-3.jpg)
Heat 1 tablespoon of @olive oil{2%tbsp} in a #large pan{} over medium heat. Add the onion and bell pepper and cook, tossing, for about ~{5%minutes}, until softened. Add the garlic and cook for ~{30%seconds}, until fragrant. Season with salt and @pepper{}.

Add @ground beef{20%oz} to the pan and cook, breaking up the pieces, until browned and cooked through, about ~{5%minutes}. Season with salt and pepper.

![Step 5](step-5.jpg)
Add the olives, @golden raisins{2%oz}, @cinnamon{2%tsp}, and the oregano to the pan and cook another 1-2 minutes, before stirring in @crushed tomatoes{2%can} and as many @chili flakes{2%tsp} as you dare. Simmer the picadillo for ~{10%minutes}, then taste and season with salt and pepper as needed.

While the picadillo simmers, stir the beans into the rice to heat through.

Serve the picadillo over the rice and beans and enjoy!
